From Measurement Requirement to Series-Ready Sensor

Research & Development

Research and Development for Industrial Sensor Solutions

Research and development is a core competence of PRIGNITZ Mikrosystemtechnik. More than 15% of our employees work in R&D, developing industrial sensor solutions for demanding measurement tasks. With in-house engineering and production in Germany, we support projects from the initial application analysis and sensor concept through prototyping, validation and series production.

Our development work focuses on pressure, temperature and level measurement for industrial applications in which standard sensors do not fully meet the technical requirements. Depending on the application, our engineers adapt measuring ranges, process connections, diaphragm materials, electrical interfaces, housing designs and mechanical configurations to the customer’s operating conditions.

Customized Sensor Development

Many development projects begin with a specific customer requirement: an unusual pressure range, aggressive media, limited installation space, high vibration loads, rapid temperature changes or the need to integrate a sensor into an existing machine or system.

Together with the customer, we define the technical requirements and structure the development process into clear project milestones. The development scope may include feasibility analysis, selection of the measuring principle, mechanical and electronic design, prototype production, testing and preparation for industrial manufacturing.

Proprietary Sensor Technologies

PRIGNITZ Mikrosystemtechnik develops and uses proprietary sensor technologies for different measurement requirements. Our technology portfolio includes P2P, TFT, PAM and PMI solutions.

One of the key results of our research and development is the patented P2P technology. Its two-chip measuring principle is designed to compensate for external mechanical influences, such as installation-related forces, and enables the development of robust pressure sensors for demanding industrial environments.

Innovation Competence Confirmed by the BSFZ Seal

PRIGNITZ Mikrosystemtechnik has been awarded the BSFZ Seal for a research and development project that delivered significant technological results. The recognition was granted for the project “Transmitter Series in a Flat Design,” which focused on the development of exceptionally compact pressure transmitters.

As part of the project, the sensing element and internal construction were redesigned to minimise the overall dimensions and reduce mechanical stress transferred from the process connection to the diaphragm. The solution incorporates the patented P2P double-bridge technology developed by PRIGNITZ Mikrosystemtechnik.

One of the results of this R&D project is the PMP-S222 pressure transmitter. This compact piezoresistive sensor is designed for OEM applications in demanding environmental conditions and offers high stability as well as strong resistance to vibration and shock. Typical applications include construction, mining and agricultural machinery, special-purpose vehicles and hydrogen systems.

The BSFZ Seal confirms the ability of PRIGNITZ Mikrosystemtechnik to transform research and development into practical sensor solutions suitable for reliable series production.

From Idea to Series Production

Our R&D team works closely with customers, universities and non-university research institutions. This combination of application knowledge, sensor engineering and scientific cooperation helps transform technical ideas into reliable and manufacturable products.

Because research, development and production are located within PRIGNITZ Mikrosystemtechnik in Germany, we maintain control over the complete process – from the sensor element and electronic design to the calibrated transmitter. This enables short communication paths, consistent quality control and sensor solutions tailored to the technical and commercial requirements of each project.
